Last Tuesday was moving day for these here gals. Although water meter boxes must seem like a fairly rad spot for bees when they think about setting down roots, tell that to the folks tasked with reading those meters. With that in mind, huge thanks to Dennis (holding the hive box), who called us to rescue this hive in his front yard before it was in jeopardy of being destroyed.
The hive proved fairly weak, so we placed a frame of honey inside along with two frames of brood, or bee larvae, to kickstart their progress. We’re just shy of a week, and thus far it seems to be working well - if slowly. Again, if you’ve got a hive in need of rescue, reach out to those local beekeepers. Our future may depend on it.
